Reducing Energy Bills

Inspect-It 1st has authored a new, free whitepaper entitled: "Common Home Defects Found During a Home Inspection that Impact Energy Bills, and Their Quick Fixes."

While not an energy audit, the standard home inspection does often uncover defects that, if corrected, could make the home more energy efficient.  The good news is, many of these repairs or replacements are easy and low cost.  As your local property expert, your Inspect-It 1st certified inspector is there to help you understand how your home 'works' and provide information to increase the comfort and value of your home investment.

Some additional tips for lowering your energy bills:

1. Use an interior fan in conjunction with a window air conditioning unit to spread the cooled air more effectively.

2. Don't place lamps or TV sets near your thermostat.

3. Upgrading old units to energy-efficient models always has one of the highest returns on investment.

4. Clean your AC filters and indoor and outdoor coils regularly.  Dirt built up on the indoor coil is the single most common cause of poor efficiency.

5. Shade east and west windows, and install awnings on south-facing windows.

The whitepaper also contains links to further tips and resources, including information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which expands tax credits for homeowners who make energy efficiency improvements.
